Depression

Dec 17, 2016

DEPRESSION is not uncommon, it is a condition that affects 14.8 million Americans and 350 million people worldwide. Depression affects one in ten adult Americans and seventy percent of adolescents by the age or eighteen.

The SYMPTOMS of depression have a negative impact on thinking, emotional states, behaviors and physical vitality.   Statistics indicate that untreated depressions places one at risk for heart attacks, stroke, obesity and sleep disturbances.

Depression acts to restrict ones’ daily activities and interests by diminishing energy, joy and optimism along with a significant increase in negative beliefs about oneself.

The weight of depression renders a diminished existence with neither energy nor enthusiasm. The Italian Renaissance poet Dante’s innermost circle of hell was not, as is commonly understood, fire but ice. And it is in this manner, in varying measures, that depression restrains, oppresses and depresses the vitality of mind and body.

TREATMENT
Depression responds well to treatment.  It is, however, characteristic of a depressive state to feel stuck, immobilized and as a result, not to seek help. For your own life, and on behalf of those who love and value you, take the courageous step with me to reveal a way beyond the confines of depression.

The state of depression we will work through is one of more severe disabilities and of longer duration than that of the normal feelings of sadness, despair, disappointment and melancholy that occasionally arise.

I have decades of experience helping clients to identify, acknowledge and work through the symptoms of depression towards a fulfilling life. Together we will utilize  a variety of skills appropriate for your lifestyle. Begin to enjoy a life of vitality, happiness, increased resiliency and appreciation.

I will provide compassionate support and employ interventions that are best suited to your circumstances and distinctive character. We shall draw from a host of the traditional western therapies. When appropriate, you will learn how to manage moods through Mindfulness meditations, somatic awareness (the body as an instrument of awareness) and gentle exercises.
